Played at Central Oregon's Juniper golf course in July, the goal of the Central Oregon Ironman is to put each golfer's skills to the test. A demanding track, Juniper Golf Course was named the 2010 facility of the year by the OGA. The course has hosted the 2007 and 2010 Oregon Open as well as the US Amateur qualifier. Juniper is rated the best municipal Golf Course in the State of Oregon with a 73.8 rating and a 133 slope.
The format is simple. Gross and net from the TIPS with all 18 pins in difficult positions. There's also a senior flight for players 50 years of age and older. The senior flight will play from the green tees. (See card) Pairings will be according to skill level with the lowest handicaps/pros paired together etc. The top gross scores from Saturday will be paired together for Sunday's round. The Central Oregon Ironman champion will be the player with low gross from the TIPS. There will be net and gross prizes. If you're a long hitter with a higher handicap your net score may be a winner. If you're a straight hitter with a nice short game you may be surprised how well the course plays. (Hint: Think of 1,5,9,11 and 17 as birdieable short par 5's)
You may be asking, "Why?" Because there are a lot of tournaments that are played from shorter tees that are best balls or scrambles etc. and none from these tees. Do you ever see a pro shoot 81 at the PGA championship and think, "Wow, on a good day I could shoot that!" Now's your chance to find out in a tournament situation. For two days of the year it gives players a chance to play a 7300+ yard course.
So come on out and challenge your game. Oct 10-11, 2015. We hope to see you here!
